 CPARC in the News

Website Visitors Posted by Country Numerically

Visitors to CPARC.Net have been posted by country using a Java application for some time now. More recently, that application has been improved to reflect not only red dots reflecting cumulative visitors on a revolving globe, but also a numeric breakdown by country.

As of  August 18, 2011, over 95% of our 1,259 visitors since September 2010 were from the United States. The leading foreign country is Germany with 16 visits. Canada and Briton had fewer with 5 each. For a complete listing, mouse click on the revolving globe in the lower right corner of the index page. Then select the bars icon in the upper right area of the Rev Iver page.

Grateful Thanks to Our Supporters

The Cumberland Plateau Amateur Radio Club (CPARC) is very fortunate to have the support of a number of corporations and local governmental groups.  The club is grateful to have these organizations as supporters and also as friends.  As we are a non-profit, 501(c) 3 organization, we must depend heavily on membership dues and fund raising events to fund our public service projects.  These projects have included our solar powered emergency repeater, National Field Day, a set of amateur radio reference books for the Art Circle Public Library and a recent Special Event station.  We appreciate the donations from our sponsors  which have included both funding and services.

Dick Chabot Publishes 2011 Monthly Calendar of Events

The CPARC event calendar for May was posted by Richard Chabot, 2010 CPARC President. To view and download the calendar, select the button labeled May Calendar under Newsletter and Calendar PDFs on the left side of this page. CPARC continues to be in Richard's debt for his continuing noteworthy service to CPARC.

Questions Regarding Website Content and Copyright Issues

From time to time questions arise with regard to CPARC.Net website ownership and copyright issues. The CPARC.Net domain name is owned by the Cumberland Plateau Amateur Radio Club and registered through GoDaddy.com. The domain at GoDaddy is masked and redirected to a high speed commercial website hosting server leased by CompuForensics at Network Solutions. All photographs and movies contained on this website are the property of those who contributed the original content. That means they remain the property of those who created the media, whether or not they submitted them. Before you can download and use said media elsewhere, you require the permission of the original owner.

The hypertext markup language (HTML) and scripts that make up this website are owned or licensed by CompuForensics, which does not permit their use elsewhere. Some items, such as the website HTML/Flash code and ARRL portable documents, are copyrighted. Their unauthorized use is not just unauthorized use, but a federal offense. Ultimately, before using a photograph or movie from this website, you should obtain permission from the owner in writing. So that such requests can be efficiently and legally handled by the webmaster, media submissions should indicate who took the pictures or movies. The Links page contains site references largely ported from the original CPARC website at QSL.Net.

Club Membership Requirement Dropped for CPARCNet Group

Given recent requests for membership in the CPARCNet Google Group by amateur radio operators located well outside of Cumberland County, coupled with less than half of CPARC members participating in the Group, membership will be now open to amateur radio operators who are not members of CPARC. The United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) amateur radio license requirement will continue to be waived for CPARC members. To access the CPARCNet Google Group, enter http://groups.google.com/group/cparcnet into address block on your browser. As before, only Group members can view Group content. Those applying for access should have a free GMail address and password, which is solicited by Google during the registration process.

CPARC Website Attracts at least 209 Visitors in December

During December, CPARC.Net attracted at least 209 visitors; Network Solutions had not posted visitors for December 31st as of early January 1st. Most popular pages included Information, News and Repeater with 69, 44 and 40 visitors, respectively. The new VE Testing page had 28 visitors.  Foreign visitors increased somewhat, however, the majority continue to be from Crossville and the eastern United States. Red dots reflect visitor locations. To view the current visitor tally, mouse clink on the revolving globe in the lower right hand corner of the CPARC.Net index page.

The adjacent graphic, generated using Java script by the CPARC website on January 1st, depicts 554 visits since September 6th. Visits were up significantly from November's 176 visitors.

QST Grants CPARC Solar Article Web Posting Permission

On September 27, 2010, QST Production Coordinator Maty Weinberg, KB1EIB, provided permission in an email to our Pete Tiffany to post QST's solar repeater articles to the CPARC web page. The permission includes the illustrated article that appeared in the August QST magazine as well as the corresponding QST In depth (available to QST subscribers online). Both articles are provided in Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF) by pressing labeled buttons at the bottom of the Repeater page. Access the Repeater page by pressing the Repeater button to the left.

CPARC appreciates the courtesy extended by QST. Necessarily, subsequent reposting or reprinting of these articles is not authorized and would constitute a federal copyright violation.

CPARC Website Visits Increase Slightly After QST Article

The number of visitors to this website appears to have increased slightly following its reference in a QST article on CPARC's solar powered repeater. CPARC.Net had 320 unique visitors for the month of August. Top pages included Repeaters, Information and News, with 106, 98 and 95 views, respectively. During the entire month of July, the site received 201 visits, with 77 of those to the News page. Visits for June totaled 241. Visitors in August 2009 numbered 272.

Thus far for August, over 88.7% of visitors used the Microsoft Windows operating system, followed by Macintosh with 5.5% and Linux with 1.8%. Over 66.1% used Microsoft Internet Explorer, followed by Firefox with 19.3%, Safari with 9.8%, Mozilla with 1.9% and Opera with 0.4%. Network Solutions browser tracking may confuse Google Chrome browser use with Safari, which appears much more popular in Network Solutions reports than is ordinarily the case.

The adjacent map depicts 37 visits to CPARC.Net between September 6th and September 13th. The current visitor map can be viewed by mouse clicking on the revolving map in the lower right corner of the index page. The origin (IP address) of past visits are indicated by red dots. As you might expect, most visitors are from the United States. Still, we've had a few visitors from abroad. The current visitor's location is depicted by a red dot with white radiating circles. The map is supported by Java script and can be easily added to any website by copying the script associated with the globe style and size required.

CPARC Restricted Google Group

The Cumberland Plateau Amateur Radio Club (CPARC) Google Group is operational with 19 members. While primarily a list server, CPARC members are additionally authorized to post files so long as their content is legal and on topic (amateur radio related).  Messages posted can be read by other members of this group, which is restricted to CPARC membership.

Since Google limits allocation of 100 megabytes of space to files, members are asked to avoid uploading files more than a few megabytes in size. Files can be renamed or deleted by the member following upload. Inappropriate files and discussion comments are subject to removal at the discretion of the group owner. Messages are automatically forwarded to members without prior review. Members can optionally read messages exclusively through this group interface, receive a single daily email containing all message activity or receive email messages as they are posted.

CPARC AWARDED GRANT BY VOLUNTEER ENERGY COOPERATIVE

Pictured [below] receiving this grant from Jim Purcell, Volunteer Energy Cooperative (VEC) Share Board Member representing Cumberland County (center), are Richard Chabot, CPARC President (left) and Pete Tiffany, CPARC Project Manager (right). CPARC of Cumberland County is pleased to announce the recent  receipt of a Share Program grant from the VEC.  The Share Program enables non-profit organizations in the VEC service area to obtain partial funding for deserving public service projects in their own areas.

The grant money will be used to help convert the club two meter emergency repeater to solar power, an upgrade that will result in a number of advantages.  By using a solar panel connected to a charge converter and with modern 12 volt battery technology, we should be unaffected by extended power outages that might deplete storage batteries recharged by commercial power.  In addition, we would be free to relocate the repeater independent from the need of a close-by commercial power source.

The Cumberland Plateau Amateur Radio Club is grateful to the VEC and the Share Program for their generous assistance to this project.
